Updated the vistors section. Added the “Basooka”, build by Bas.

Today I managed to crash my heli. Seems the heli is still in control of me, I think it should be the other way around, but that takes a lot more practice. If you like a challenge, I suggest you buy one, it’s definitely fun. Regretfully if have to order new main blades and main blade holders, not that they are expensive, it just takes a little while before they drop into my mailbox. If have posted the movie of the crash in the movies section.

September 9, 2005

I have just received my new hobby. It came by mail, in a package. When I opened the package I found it ... a remote controlled helicopter. Great! I’m excited and eager to try it. I can’t wait! What will happen ... my guess is that the heli will crash. What ever happens I promise to post a small movie clip of my first flight and possible crash. More on this soon.
Would you like to have your own helicopter then press this link.

August 18, 2005

As you might have noticed, it has been a while. In the meanwhile I did some testing with the rocket from the workshop. To be able to finish the workshop there are some minor problems with the rocket that need to be solved first.

I also build a new cannon based upon a vacuum cleaner. The performance off the cannon can’t be compared with a “spud gun”, but it is a device that is fun to build and it is legal. The cannon is able to fire squash and golf balls. It’s also able to fire several rounds of ammo automatically. Hey ... sounds like it’s a kind of a machine gun. I have posted a movie that shows the cannon in action. In the coming weeks I will tell you how to build your own. You can also use it as a leave blower, or for starting your home build jet engine. I also plan to build my own jet engine, but that is a project for the long run.

Added assembly instructions to the Gardena Launcher workshop.

May 29, 2005

Today I planned to test the water rocket from the workshop and the altimeter; unfortunately I did not get the change to carry out my plans. Instead I have performed a pressure test. This test should give me an idea of the maximum pressure that can be reached with the Gardena launcher. I have set up a little test using the components which are also used in the pressurized section of the Gardena launcher. Basically I have tested the compressor, the garden hose, the Gardena quick connect coupling, the nozzle, and the PET bottle. The test was successful. Everything but the PET bottle is still in one piece. The bottle blew at about 14 bar (203 psi). If you would like to see what happened take a look at the movie (make sure you switch on your 5.1, 6.1, or 10.2 surround sound set). At least now I know that the launcher will allow me to launch the rockets at maximum pressure.

May 25, 2005

It has been a while, I got a lot done except the website. I will update the website after I have tested the rocket which will be built in the water rocket workshop. Yesterday I have received an altimeter which I have ordered at apogee rockets. The altimeter should give us detailed information about the rockets performance. Once I get to test the rocket from the workshop I will also test the altimeter and report my findings.

Also coming up is a new Pyro Pipe, or better yet a Pyro Twister project. This project is still in an early experimental phase. If it works like I would want it to then we will have some awesome fun.

In the meanwhile I have also tested my mini compressor. I took a piece of garden hose, put in an tire valve, hooked up the compressor and ... hit this link if you would like to know what happened.

May 8, 2005

Started a new workshop about building a water rocket.

May 5, 2005

Added a few pictures of the Mark III spud gun, better know as the tennis ball canon.

May 2, 2005

In the summer of 2004 I have build a hovercraft. Today I pulled it out of my archive and added a new hovercraft section to the website.

April 29, 2005

Finally I have been able to reproduce a movie which resembles the one I tried to shoot at the 24th. This movie shows 7 shots which are fired with the Mark I spud gun, 5 of them are lousy shots, the best shot is the last one.

April 24, 2005

Today I finally was able to do some more testing with the high pressure Gradena nozzle that I use for launching the water rockets. Unfortunately Murphey hitched a ride in my trunk. The nozzle on the first rocket did not make a perfect seal so I was not able to get it pressurized above 6 bar (87 psi). The nozzle of the second rocket I prepared for launch did make a good seal, but this time the Murphey factor kicked in and the compressor did not get over 6 bar (87 psi). After a hint of my wife I had to conclude that the battery I use with the compressor needed recharging. So, I packed up my gear and went home with a few disappointing launch shots, which I by the way won’t publish.
Once I got home I decided to grab my mark I spud gun. My kids like to eat chocolate eggs which contain a little toy. These toys fit into a small plastic container. These containers, without the toys off course, can be used as ammo for my spud gun. They almost fit perfectly into the barrel. I grabbed my camera and fires two shot on my roof. The first shot was with a bad mixture of hairspray and air. The container barley made it to the roof. Second shot was with a perfect mixture of hairspray and air. I fired and the container disappeared into thin air after hitting the roof with great velocity. Murphey off course made sure that the footage I got from my camera just showed what happened between the two shots.
Don’t worry though next time I first shoot Murphey before I get started.

Added the “Stuff build by site visitors” section to the site. This section shows stuff that visitors who share the same interests have built. It’s a kind off “great minds think alike” section.

April 3, 2005

I have been in Boston (MA) for a week. During my trip, especially the hours that I have spent on the plane, I had time to think about the problems that I faced with the quick connect nozzle. I had to come up with a solution. Well I think I did, I just have not been able to test it yet. I hope that I will be able to test it next week. I have published the solution in the workshop section for the Gardena Launcher.

March 27, 2005

Added a movie where we launch the MAX rocket twice with the Gardena Launcher at 8 bar (116 psi). The first launch was planned; the second one was launched by Murphy. I forgot to bring spare parts so; the next few launches in the movie were done the classic way with a cork.
One of the launches we did not catch on tape, also due to Murphy, was a launch at 10 bar (145 psi) with a new build rocket. This rocket is called “GARD” it’s based upon the PET bottle we used for testing the Gardena Launcher. One of the things we have learned from these launches is that we need to find a way to make the Gardena nozzle stick to the bottle. Our compressor can handle up to 250 psi, so the nozzle should at least be able the handle this kind of pressure. More on this in about two weeks.

March 20, 2005

Updated the workshop Gardena Launcher page. Also added the test flight movies with the MAX rocket and updated the Water Rockets page.

March 13, 2005

Added a movie of the first test with the Gardena Launcher. Go to the movies section to view the movie. More on the Gardena Launcher will follow soon. Also coming up are two movies of test flights with the MAX rocket.

March 1, 2005

Made modifications to the water rocket launcher workshop.

February 18, 2005

Started with the workshop section. This section can be found in the projects menu. In the first workshop we will build a water rocket launcher.

At the moment this site is slowly comming to live. I’m still working on the content for this site, so check once in a while for new content. See you later....
